I’ve been follwoing the Cubs since the 1950’s…and Lou is far-and-away the best Cubs’ manager I’ve ever seen (with the possible exception of Don Zimmer in ‘89). Go ahead, breathe a sigh of relief. Jump for joy and hug and kiss the Cubs fan next to you. It is October and the Cubs season is not yet over; in fact, it is just getting started. Forget the magnitude of these next several weeks. Do not even think back to 1908, the last time the Cubs won: the Taft Administration, petroleum drilling begins in Middle East, and Henry Ford’s first Model T sells for $850. Please, no thoughts of black cats, Bartman or Billy Goats. This is an article about hope with logical statistics to back it.

So is 2007 indeed “The Year”? Will the Baseball gods finally shed light on the darkness that has surrounded Wrigley Field for nearly 100 years? Will Steve Bartman finally be able to return to his normal life and birth name?

As we approach the final day of the season, we look at some of the more special moments and also some very key people as we give the Cubs some props.
