Wednesday evening I made the trip up to Des Moines to see the Iowa Cubs and specifically to see how Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno were doing down on the farm. What I got to see was one of the best batting practice displays I’ve ever seen live, as Matt Murton crushed pitch after pitch to all fields, with about half of his hits clearing the walls. He was hitting the ball well to all fields with good pop and solid power, which was good to see. After Matt’s batting practice barrage I was lucky enough to grab a few minutes with him before he went to sign for a few fans and return to the clubhouse.

As the Cubs enter their big weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers, they also enter the series with a new found optimism they can turn the season around. While the Cubs have already had a season filled with memories and mishaps that could last a decade, they take aim to make another statement against the young Brew Crew in an attempt to make a run at the division lead before the All Star break. Many things can be attributed to much better baseball the Cubs are playing these days but I think the team should look down the third base line at the once very unpopular Bullpen.

Talks of Jacque Jones leaving Chicago are on fire of late.  It’s been no secret the Cubs have had Jones in the front of the garage sale with a “Best Offer Accepted” tag around his neck.
