Good morning everyone!
The first place Chicago Cubs will resume action on Sunday evening at 7:05 PM cst from Miller Park in Milwaukee, as they will face the Houston Astros in Game 1 of a brief 2-game series.
Game 2 is scheduled again at Miller Park for 1:05 PM tomorrow & a possible Game 3 would be played on September 29th in Houston.
This figures not to please the Astros at all, as Miller Park is just a 90-mile drive from Chicago & is always packed with Cub fans whenever the North Siders are in town.
Carlos Zambrano (13-5, 3.58) will make his much anticipated return to the starting rotation for the Cubs & will be opposed by Astros southpaw Randy Wolf (4-1, 3.81 in 9 starts with Houston).
Zambrano’s last apperance was on September 2nd against Houston, when he pitched 5 innings & allowed 3 runs on 5 hits before leaving with arm problems.
After Zambrano’s 1st DL stint in mid-June, the Cubs went 8-3 in his starts following his return.
Carlos is 1-1 in 3 starts this season against Houston with a 4.42 ERA.
The Astros have won 8 of Wolf’s last 9 starts dating back to July 27th at Milwaukee. Wolf is 1-1 in 2 starts against the Cubs with a 4.85 ERA.
Entering Sunday’s action, the Cubs’ magic number to clinch the NL Central for the 2nd consecutive season is down to 10. That’s the lowest number among all 1st place teams (excluding the Angels) that have yet to clinch their division.
Signing off for now,
