I’ll be the first to admit, sometimes I put my foot in my mouth when I discuss the Cubs. Im a bit of a fan, as my friends and most anyone who’s ever met me will agree, but I try to keep things in perspective. For example, when I discuss teams in the AL I try to keep an open mind and make a rational argument based on statistics and baseball knowledge.
THIS clown, on the other-hand, has decided that he’s an expert about the Cubs and specifically how Chicago Cubs fans treated Milton Bradley. (After the jump it gets REALLY interesting…)
To begin with, I dont know a single Cubs fan that expected Milton Bradley to have such a poor season. I dont even know anyone who WISHED that he would have a poor season. I think as a whole, Cubs fans would have loved for Bradley to have a repeat of his 2008 season and help the Cubs into the playoffs.
Instead, Milton did the following…
- Threw his teammates under the bus.
- Called Cubs fans (perhaps the most loyal fans in the history of sports) overly racist.
- Hit .214 on the road.
- Hit .243 in the first half.
- ONLY hit .273 in the 2nd half even though his BABIP was .336 (average for a hitter is closer to .290-.300)
- Hit under .200 in the first and final month of the season.
- Hit more than 60 points lower than his previous season.
- Never really seemed to have any clue how many outs there were, including the time he THREW A BALL INTO THE STANDS WITH ONLY 2 OUTS.
The fact of the matter is this: Cubs fans arent overly racist. Sure, there are idiots in every fan base, but I’ve never heard a Cubs fan say ANYTHING overly racist and I attend quite a few games.
Specifically, here’s what was said (if you dont care to read the article):
“Before signing with the Cubs, Bradley had a career-year in Texas, with a .999 OPS. Once he escapes the racism in Wrigleyville and comes to the more laid back environment in Detroit, he’ll be just fine.”
Yep, Detroit is WAY more laid back… Their economy is tanking, every major sports team is choking (Spartans and Tigers, that’d be you) and players in need of ‘a change of scenery’ have done well there (looking at you Dontrelle Willis)… I’d love to unload Bradley, but I just had to vent for a minute about this hack who thinks he knows everything.
