Tonight’s scheduled opener of a 3-game series between the Chicago Cubs & the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field was cancelled due to rain & will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday.
Game 1 of tomorrow’s doubleheader will start at 12:10 PM cst, as Cubs righthander Jason Marquis (7-7, 4.73) will square off against Braves right-hander Charlie Morton.
Marquis has struggled since the All-Star break with a 5.92 ERA in 4 starts, but is 3-3 in 9 road starts this season with a 3.50 ERA.
Marquis is winless against Atlanta in 4 career starts with a 14.04 ERA, which is his highest earned run average among all opposing MLB teams that he’s faced.
Morton has yet to win a home start this season for the Braves, as he is 0-4 in 5 Turner Field starts with a 8.39 ERA. Wednesday will also be Morton’s 1st career start against the Cubs.
The only Braves batter who has fared well against Marquis is Chipper Jones, who has 3 home runs in just 6 career at-bats.
Game 2 will begin at 6:15 PM cst & will feature Cubs righthander Rich Harden (1-1, 2.10 in 5 starts for Cubs) against Braves righthander Jorge Campillo (7-4, 2.83).
Harden has already beaten Atlanta earlier this season as a member of the Oakland Athletics on May 17th at Turner Field, as he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings of work & picked up the win.
The only batter in that game to record more than 1 hit off Harden was 1st baseman Mark Texieira, who is now with the Los Angeles Angels.
Campillo will make his 1st career start against the Cubs on Wednesday evening & has pitched great since the All-Star break, where he is 3-0 in 5 starts with a 2.17 ERA.
This will be the Cubs’ first doubleheader since September 15th, 2007 at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals as they won 3-2 in Game 1 & lost 4-3 in Game 2.
Signing off for now,
