Kerry Wood got himself into a 9th-inning bases loaded, no out jam & almost got out of it with his most triumphant save of the season.
Skip Schumaker had other ideas, as he hit a game-winning 2-run single to give the St. Louis Cardinals their first win in 33 tries when trailing after the 8th inning with a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon from Busch Stadium.

Even though All-Star selection Sunday is nearing quick, the Cubs got big contributions from a pair of rookies who could be just 48 hours away from making their 1st ever Midseason Classic apperances at legendary Yankee Stadium.
The Chicago Cubs got solo homers from Kosuke Fukudome & Geovany Soto, plus 6 strong shutout innings from Carlos Zambrano to edge the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 on Friday evening from Busch Stadium.

The first thing you learn in a statistics class is that statistics can prove anything. As such, I’ve always been a big fan of statistics, because with the right ones you can prove even the most improbably assertions. Just for fun I’ve found a few goofy statistics regarding this year’s team that might surprise some people and shock others.

The San Francisco Giants took control with a 4-run second inning & led themselves to a 8-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon from AT&T Park.
Despite owning baseball’s worst home record (16-26), the Giants were able to earn a 4-game split with the Cubs, who currently sport the National League’s best record. (51-35). Read more… »

The Chicago Cubs are in the midst of a great slump as they head into a big series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs have battled a series of injuries which have led players to the disabled list and have had their share of walking wounded. The most concerning is the Cubs poor play in fundamentals as they have looked truly lethargic at times. Looking ahead to the second half on baseball, The Cubs will have many questions answered that have been brought up by their recent slump.
